Philip Halpern was elected to the healthEgames Board of Directors in August 2015, after serving as the company’s initial Chief Operating Officer. He has spent most of his career engaged as the Managing Director and/or Chief Investment Officer (CIO) of large institutional portfolios — including for the endowments of The University of Chicago and California Institute of Technology, J.C. Penney Company benefit plans and the Washington State Investment Board pension plan. As CIO, Mr. Halpern has reviewed thousands of private equity funds and companies as well as countless hedge fund and other investment strategies.
Mr. Halpern has been designated an NACD Board Leadership Fellow, with recent fiduciary and advisory positions in private equity having included: Deutsche Bank’s RREEF America REIT II (Chairman of Audit Committee), Duet India Hotels (Lead Independent Director), Edgeline Capital Partners (Chairman of Advisory Board), The Frontenac Company (Advisory Board), NationsBuilders Insurance Services (Chairman of both Audit and Investment Committees) and SunTx Capital Partners (Board of Governors). He has lectured on and has authored numerous investment topics, as well as advising private organizations and the governments of Egypt and Kazakhstan on capital market reform and portfolio investing. He has served for six years on the executive management committee of Chapin Hall at The University of Chicago, a foremost policy and applied research organization focused on issues effecting children’s welfare.
Mr. Halpern holds an M.B.A. in Finance from UCLA and an A.B. in Anthropology from Grinnell College, and completed doctoral coursework in Strategic Planning at Northwestern University. He was awarded a Certification in Cybersecurity Leadership after completing a year-long course of study at Carnegie Mellon University.
